As mediators we have become used to mediating online using Zoom during the pandemic. The question now being asked is when will the restrictions come to an end? It seems likely that we will see some easing of restrictions in the not too distant future. However, it remains to be seen whether things will ever get back to “normal”. The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.

It may not seem important but the value of human contact and agreement encapsulated in the handshake cannot be underestimated. I do miss the symbolic handshake at the end of a mediation. Nothing quite says let bygones be bygones than a handshake. Is it possible that shaking hand will become a thing of the past and people avoid it in future?
