CEDR has published the results of its annual survey of mediation. The mediation market is worth at least £26.5 million per annum. The value of cases totals over £10.5 billion and saves business £2.8 billion per annum.
The results show that 86% of cases settle through mediation, but fewer settle on the day and more in follow up. Mediators are spending more time on mediation, suggesting it has become more difficult. 75% of clients considered that performance was good or adequate. Clients prefer an evaluative approach. The key requirements for clients when selecting mediators are the mediator’s professional reputation and sector experience, with fee levels, availability and professional qualifications coming below this.
