It was recently reported that women are complaining about being forced to wear high heels to work. Slater & Gordon carried out a study which showed a sizeable proportion of women in particular feel pressurised into wearing clothes they do not feel comfortable with.

Appropriate dress at work has been controversial for some time, with disputes easily arising.

Whatever the rights or wrongs, when an employee raises a grievance, why not bring in an independent mediator? HR professionals may want to include a mediation clause in grievance procedures as it is much better than dealing with a tribunal claim down the line. A majority of employees who make grievances end up leaving the business, resulting in additional recruitment costs and disruption to business.
