The CMC has changed its membership criteria. This makes it easier to join the CMC and act as a mediator without needing observations.

Associate Mediator – this category will be open to anybody who has passed a CMC Registered Training Course and meets basic professional criteria such as having insurance, abiding by the EU Code of Conduct for mediators and carrying out CPD. A transition scheme will be available for current members who do not meet historical training requirements.
Registered Mediator – as now, but with an observation points system to replace the current observation requirements, which allows for greater use of online observations and more flexibility in how points can be obtained.
CMC Fellow – this category is for the most experienced mediators, who have been mediating and have been associated with the CMC for at least ten years. In due course, it is intended that this requirement will be adjusted to require 10 years of experience as a CMC Registered Mediator, but the category of Registered Mediator is not yet old enough to introduce this.
